Caren L. Pollack
Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Ms. Pollack graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 1982 and the University of North Carolina School of Law in Chapel Hill in 1987. She worked as a deputy prosecutor for Marion County before she began practicing in the private sector, defending public entities and private businesses in civil rights, wrongful death and serious injury cases.
She has been retained by the City of Indianapolis, the State of Indiana, Indianapolis Public Schools and other municipalities throughout Indiana in several cases which garnered national media attention. She presents instructional seminars to police departments, insurance companies and attorneys on issues relating to topics such as municipal liability and trial strategies. She was a featured speaker at DRI’s 36th Annual Civil Rights and Governmental Tort Liability in Las Vegas in January 2023. Ms. Pollack defended the precedent-setting and frequently-cited cases of Hupp v. Hill, 576 N.E.2d 1320 (Ind. Ct. App. 1991) and Tapia v. City of Greenwood, 965 F.2d 336 (7th Cir. 1992). Her other prominent decisions include Ritchhart v. Indianapolis Public Schools, 822 N.E.2d 982 (Ind. Ct. App. 2004), Board of School Commissioners of the City of Indianapolis v. Pettigrew, 851 N.E.2d 326 (Ind. Ct. App. 2006) trans. denied, Crawfordsville Town & Country Home Center, Inc. v. Cordova, 119 N.E.3d 119 (Ind. Ct. App. 2019) trans. denied, Murray v. Indianapolis Public Schools, 128 N.E.3d 450 (Ind. 2019), King v. Hendricks Cty. Comm’rs, 954 F.3d 981 (7th Cir. 2020), and GEFT Outdoor, LLC v. Monroe Cnty., 2023 U.S. App. LEXIS 5626 (7th Cir. 2023), among others.
